2010 Ford Escape Coolant Type & Refill Basics

The correct coolant depends on the factory specification and what is already in the cooling system. Do not choose coolant by color alone.

Safety: Work on a cool, secured vehicle when applicable. Follow the service information for your exact vehicle and use proper protective equipment.

What to use

Check the owner's manual, reservoir label, or Ford specification for your exact engine and build. Use a coolant that explicitly states it meets the required Ford specification.

Do not mix by color

Coolant color is not a reliable chemistry standard. Mixing incompatible coolants can reduce corrosion protection and create deposits.

Topping off

Only open the cooling system when the engine is cold. Use the correct premixed coolant or the correct concentrate mixed with distilled water as specified.

After service

Check for leaks, verify the level again after a full heat cycle and cool-down, and watch the temperature gauge. Persistent coolant loss needs diagnosis rather than repeated topping off.

Bottom line

Diagnose the cause before ordering parts. Vehicle configurations vary, so verify specifications and procedures for your exact year, engine, and model.
